Stephan's Quintet is a visual grouping of five galaxies in the constellation Pegasus, four of which form the first compact galaxy group to be discovered. The group was discovered by Édouard Stephan in 1877 using the 80 cm reflector telescope at the Marseille Observatory. It is one of the most heavily studied compact galaxy groups. The brightest member of the visual grouping is NGC 7320, which has extensive H II regions and active star formation.
